This work examines some of the sources that Maria de Zayas uses to present some of her concepts about the devil, evil, men, honor and love in relationship to the supernatural. Contrary to some modern critics, the Spanish people of the Seventeenth century were very much aware of the significance, customs, and relevance of these supernatural beliefs in their lives. This title is presented in Spanish. Throughout the ages, women have been portrayed as secondary citizens, weak and evil, allying themselves with the devil to obtain what they want, especially love. Maria de Zayas utilizes the theme of the supernatural in her novels to portray an upside-down world where men are the ones who ally themselves to the devil to seduce women and dishonor them.
